Customer Buzz
The Wenger Mountaineer watch represents a great value. At less than $100, the brushed-finish solid stainless steel case and mineral crystal combined with the Swiss movement yields a tough, practical and reasonably priced combination.

I purchased this watch after determining my previous Wenger watch would cost about as much to repair as purchasing this watch new. I had excellent service from my previous Wenger so I did not hesitate in purchasing another.

I was unable to find the exact model I was replacing, but the Mountaineer was very close.

Observations:

1) No screw down crown. Probably not a big deal for most users, but a difference from the model I previously had.

2) No day/date display - only date. No biggie, I *usually* know what day it us.

3) Date display is fairly small. Reading the date can be a challenge for those of us who are not as young as we used to be. The display is fairly small, and while it is composed of black numbers on a white background, I find it challenging to read in less than excellent lighting. A magnifier in the crystal would be a great help.

4) Luminous markings not particularly bright. I was always VERY pleased with the 'glow in the dark' ability of my previous Wenger. Unfortunately this new model fails to meet the mark of my previous one. The luminous hands are adequate, but did not impress me.

5) Timekeeping accuracy. While I have not 'tested' this watch against an Internet time-source such as the UNO, it seems to keep very usable time - as one would expect from today's quartz crystal based timepieces.

6) Bracelet adjustment. I have a medium sized wrist and the bracelet as delivered was too large. I needed to have 3 links removed and visited my friendly jeweler to have this done. I was pleased that the adjustment was done at no charge (especially considering I did not purchase the watch from them), but I would not consider this typical. You should factor in some cost for adjustment into the TCO for the watch. I would not consider the removal of links a DIY project. It involves the removal of some fairly fine pins approximately .5mm in diameter. I believe jewelers/watchmakers have a special tool for this purpose.

Conclusion: I'm happy with my purchase. It represents a good value in an attractive, tough, name-brand watch.
